PIIF
(= proteinase-inhibitor inducing factor)
Factor produced by a plant in response to attack by insects. Induces the formation of a substance that inhibits the proteinase that the insect secretes to digest plant tissues. May be mobile within the plant, thus inducing inhibitor formation away from the site of original attack.
